Haley Wong
neglected diseases
“
Fifty million patients neglected each year. Finally, someone's searching for a cure.”
Haley Wong, like millions of others in the developing world, was ravaged by dengue fever, a debilitating disease marked by severe bone pain and high fever that can lead to hemorrhaging and death. Diseases such as dengue fever are not often a research priority because they are confined to developing regions. In 2002, Novartis established a non-profit research center in Singapore dedicated to neglected diseases including dengue fever, and is getting closer to a cure.
